Solomon Asks for Wisdom

At the beginning of his reign, Solomon asked for an understanding heart to govern the people and distinguish good from evil. The account says his request pleased the Lord. A dispute between two women over a child then demonstrated his discernment. The chapter connects wisdom with the responsibility of judgment, while later chapters show that receiving wisdom did not prevent every failure in Solomon’s life.
