Samuel Hears a Call

Samuel served under Eli when he heard his name called at night. He first thought Eli was calling him, but Eli eventually understood and told him how to respond. Samuel received a difficult message concerning Eli’s household and was afraid to tell it. He nevertheless spoke honestly. The chapter marks the beginning of Samuel’s recognized prophetic role in Israel.
