Samson’s Strength and Weakness

Samson’s story ends amid conflict with the Philistines and his relationship with Delilah. After repeated attempts to discover the source of his strength, his hair was cut and he was captured. Blinded and imprisoned, he later prayed for strength at a gathering of Philistine rulers. The building fell, killing Samson and many others. The account is troubling and complex, and should not be reduced to a lesson that violence is admirable.
