The Son Who Came Home
Jesus tells stories about what is lost and found. In one, a younger son asks for his share of the property and leaves for a distant country. When his resources are gone and famine comes, he reaches a painful low point. He decides to return and confess what he has done.
His father sees him from a distance and welcomes him with compassion. A celebration begins. The older son, who has stayed and worked, is angry. The father goes out to him too, explaining the joy of receiving back a son who was lost. The story leaves the older brother’s response open.
