Cain and Abel

Cain and Abel brought offerings, but Cain became angry when his offering was not regarded. God warned him about sin at the door. Cain killed his brother, and the narrative confronts him with the question of where Abel was. Cain’s punishment and the mark placed on him belong to a story that takes both violence and the preservation of life seriously.
