The Call of Abraham

Abram receives a call to leave his country, his relatives, and his father’s house for a land God will show him. The promise reaches beyond Abram himself: he will become a great nation, and the families of the earth will be blessed through him.

Abram goes with Sarai and Lot. When he reaches Canaan, the land is already inhabited. He travels through it, building altars and calling on the LORD. The journey is not a simple tale of instant success. A famine leads him to Egypt, where fear shapes his decisions and puts Sarai at risk. The chapter introduces a life of promise alongside the real weakness of the person called.
